Military History USMC combat knife Ka-Bar - is and Purpose
The KA-BAR is a combat knife used by members of the Armed Forces to be used Close combat scenarios. These days, the Ka-Bar is mostly used as a knife. For example, the opening of wooden boxes, clearing the leaves, cutting branches, etc. It is also strong enough to easily pierce a hole in a can.
KA-BAR Knives are usually very heavy and usually have a 7 inches long Blade. It is made of carbon steel 1095. The number 1095 represents the chemical composition of the metal as defined by the Society of Automotive Engineers SAE assigned Steel grades. One person was attacked by a bear before the Second World War. He survived the attack and wrote a letter to the company to assume that the knife had saved his life when a weapon to do the job. The letter was written in poor English and all that was legible was bar "ka" which the company uses this name as a trademark.
In 1942 just after the U.S. entered World War II, troops were having problems with their old Mark I Trench Knife. They came to be realized they needed a better knife to engage in trench warfare, so military KA-BAR picked up a catalog of hunting gear, and made editing military standard for the troops. The USMC uses several different types of knives during the war, but the KA-BAR was by far the most popular.
In fact, the military liked it so much also became Military Standard Number after the Second World War ended. The Marine Corps has to choose the final form. They made the longest leaf that could be used in combat. I also wanted a full life, which was a rounded or beveled groove that sat on the flat part of the sheet. KA-BAR The company earned millions of dollars during World War II by selling this to the military.
The reason for this knife was made so popular was because they were very easy to make and very cheap to buy. This means that they too were very tasks easier to replace and realized that they were necessary. This weapon was also being used in the Second World War as a diving knife, but not stood up very well for salt water. The military still uses the KA-BAR and do the hunters, fishermen and outdoor enthusiasts. This weapon USMC has a long history that is not going away soon. Semper Fi.

Anyone know anything about knives?
My boyfriend is in the Marines and has a very big obsession with knives. He deployed right now and accidentally broke the knife he just got a few months ago. Valentine's Day approached us, and I want a knife, but I have the first clue where to look, what brand is good, and what would be a good knife someone in the military. I want to end the knife ... any suggestions? In addition, What else would be a good gift to give? I was thinking maybe cigarettes, and she likes that?! Anyone who can help would be awesome.
SOG If it's good enough for Navy SEALs is good enough for anybody.
