Assist Assisted Duck

For the aspiring Virtual Assistant

The recent market conditions and massive dismissal has caused many of my friends to reconsider their careers. Recently several of my friends asked me about my business as a virtual assistant. I said that a Virtual Assistant is a person who offers his experience to a specific target an hourly basis or fixed monthly fees. A Virtual Assistant is administrative in its foundation, but a person can specialize in event planning, web design, content or text editing, Internet marketing and advertising, or an Online Business Manager. A Virtual Assistant is a business owner and not an employee or contractor.

When a customer decides to purchase my services, do not have to worry about buying new equipment (laptop, printer, etc.); I pay my taxes and provide health benefits. This is strictly a professional relationship, we expect long-term work for the medium.

My tremendeous friends expressed an amount of anxiety about leaving their jobs and fear alittle about becoming a Virtual Assistant business owner. My recommendation for anyone is to keep your day job, but to leverage your time and money to get your ducks lined up in a row:

  1. Assess your current skills
  2. Take a Myers Briggs test and understand your work style
  3. Review your resume and write the common theme - that will tell you what you like to do (and do not like to do)
  4. Check the type of job that you enjoy - as to a particular type of customer: this may be a coach, speaker, event planner, online business (the retail) owner, property, legal, marketing, public relations or advertising
  5. Get connected with at least 1-3 as an assistant virtual sites: IVAA.org or VACOC.com. These sites offer resources and a list of experienced VA professionals are very helpful and insightful
  6. You still need to get some kind training or training because it helps their "mentality" when transition to becoming a business owner. There are a number of resources and training Virtual Assistant available through AssistU, VA Sydnie EA Craig-Hart, or Virtual Assistant Training by Patty Benton, JERPAT; Hot Skills VA and VA in the classroom have excellent self-directed courses on electronic commerce, Internet marketing, Social Media Marketing and Blog Marketing
  7. I strongly recommend training in internet marketing, social media marketing and electronic commerce - even if you do not want to provide these services to your customers, you want to apply some of these tools for your own business
  8. Once you get through at least 6 months of training and certification courses then you will have to hire someone to build and design your website that offers its services, send your URL to directories like Yahoo, Google, and Bing, Virtual Assistant directories and sites such as Ning, BizNik, E-cademy, such as LinkedIn and social networking sites.

I recommend that you hire a virtual assistant who specializes in construction and design web page that can beat a website tasteful, classy that reflects your personality, professionalism and attract the kind of customers. Their prices are affordable and because they have "been there and done that "would be able to provide you excellent advice on your site.
