Questions about Japanese swords?

I am a practicing martial artist and both aikido and iaido. My girlfriend gave me a Iaitō (like a Japanese katana, but has the blade is not sharpened, especially for iaido) for our anniversary. I want to take to the recreation center at my school to practice, but I worry about the cold may damage the walk there. Does anyone know if this could happen? I keep it in its sheath, and are wrapped in a cloth sheath of the sword of transport. Also I have greased sheet as I supposed, but is an expensive gift, so we must be more careful ... Thanks!

Provided that when not carrying drawn out and is fine. Keep like to be involved and you will have nothing to worry about. Remember to clean and oil after every practice session.
